HOW TO DO IT SAFELY ONLINE
HOW TO DO IT SAFELY ONLINE
Life is getting hella crazy: Twitter is suddenly a forbidden word that cannot be mentioned, creating a password for your new e-mail address is almost an escape room game, and hackers have found their way into your Whatsapp inbox. After all this craziness, you would practically delete all your apps and start living in a tree house. There’s no need to take that road into the dark woods! We went looking for the ideal do’s & don’ts to secure all your passwords and embarrassing snapshots in your gallery!
BACK TO BASICS
We don’t have to tell you how you should create strong passwords, but it won’t hurt if you spice them up from time to time. You also already know that using the same password for all your accounts is a no-go. (This was our subtle hint to change that up now 😉 ). Once that’s done, you’re left with only one basic rule: never, ever EVER login to a public Wi-Fi network (even though the free temptation is great), and certainly not at the airport, because there are always hackers lurking over there! Just take your TADAAM with you, plug it in, and get the best internet signal all to yourself without the dangerous lurkers.
DOUBLE-CHECKING = DOUBLE THE DATA FUN
Does the fear of someone hacking into your bank account keep you wide awake at night (even though there’s not really a million in it)? Leave your sleeping pills behind, because two-factor authentication will get you sleeping like a rock. Both Apple and Google have their own app for this which provides an extra layer of security for important accounts like your email app and banking app by adding a second authentication step. It really is that easy!
GO THE EXTRA MILE
Like to do it extra safely? Then check and restrict the permissions of every app and always turn on your full app encryption in your settings. This encrypts all data on your device and will make it unreadable without a decryption key. In human language: you’ll be three steps ahead of hackers! You’ll get to do it with BitLocker for Windows, FileVault for macOS, and “device encryption” for iOS and Android. Have you checked everything above? Then you’re ready for a safe online life!
